Ochsenweg in Noord-Duitsland, waar de Jutlandroute een groot deel overheen gaatHello everyone,

After another beautiful cycling journey and 1650 kilometers, we got home yesterday afternoon! After we arrived, the bicycles were put in the garden and we took a swim in the sea. Something we couldn't do during the whole cycling trip. At first because of the weather, but later by lack of a sea....After we left the Vendelbo family in Vissenbjerg (Which is here) Wednesday, June 24, we had a sensation that part 2 of our journey just started. A day later we crossed the border with Germany and started to follow the "Jutlandroute". This route runs from Emmen (in the Netherlands) through the northern part of Germany to Skagen (Northern Denmark), but we went in the opposite direction from Flensburg which is in Northern Germany, Schleswig-Holstein.
The whole part until the border with the Netherlands tends to be boring. There are a couple of nice spots, but in general we mostly saw wide fields with a farmhouse, some small farming villages and more fields. It was almost completely flat. Quite a disappointment after Denmark.
And so we reached Ter Apel Monday morning, June 29 around 11 o'clock.

Last week it was wonderful again. Of course because of the weather - The hotter, the better even though Remy disagrees - but also because of the route. Starting in Emmen, we cycled through Hardenberg to Zwolle, were we had a lunch with uncle Adri and aunt Jannie. After that we cycled straight through the Veluwe to Zeist.
By the way: We can cycle the 110 kilometers from the front-door of my aunt and uncle in the north of Zwolle to our mobile home in Zeist without any traffic lights!
After two nights in Zeist we left for Brakel, were we had a barbecue with some colleagues of Remy. His colleagues cycled that day from Scheveningen to Brakel and we cycled with them the next day back. For me it was the hardest day in our holiday. Not because of the length (104 km) or the heat, but the high pace and the head-wind. They were cycling on their light-weight racing bicycles and we on our packed-and-loaded 'hummers', and despite Remy was the guide and limited the speed somewhat. Still we enjoyed our selves very much and even though we feel we just got up to speed the last ten days and would like to continue to cycle to the south, we do like the thought of being home again!

And next year? We'll just try again: to Rome!

Have a good summer all of you!
Remy & Gea
