We have spent most nights in little parks or playgrounds up to now. Camp-sites are usually some way out of our route, often on the top of a mountain, and have no more facilities than the above. And if you do go to a camp-site, it is often full up. We shouldn’t have been surprised, as it was the Golden Week. A nice man on a bike took us a few hundred metres further to a beautiful spot in natural surroundings, with a covered picnic spot - and a toilet building.
All these special camping spots mean that we can’t often shower, but we’re in Japan and one can buy everything in Japan. I don’t mean portable bathrooms or disposable showers but cleaning tissues – damp cloths with an alcohol solution, with which we scrub ourselves thoroughly and thus stay reasonably clean. Clean enough, anyway...
On the way, we grab every chance to have a wash. Or improvise a shower...
